About this calculator

An attendance calculator computes attendance percentage from sessions present versus total sessions.

Who should use it: Students monitoring course attendance requirements.

When to use it: Use it when your syllabus sets a minimum attendance percentage.

Class attendance percentage

Attendance % = (Classes attended ÷ Classes conducted) × 100 Skip allowance (if at/above required): floor(attended ÷ (required/100) − conducted) Classes to catch up (if below): ceil((required/100 × conducted − attended) ÷ (1 − required/100))

Current attendance is the share of held classes you attended. If you are already meeting the requirement, the skip formula finds how many future classes you can miss while staying at or above that percentage. If you are below, the catch-up formula finds the fewest additional consecutive classes you must attend to reach the requirement.

Step-by-step

  1. Enter classes conducted

Total classes held so far in the course or term.

  2. Enter classes attended

How many of those classes you were present for (must not exceed conducted).

  3. Set the required percentage

Use your school’s rule — often 75% for colleges.

  4. Review status and planning numbers

See your current %, whether you are above/at/below the rule, how many you can skip, or how many more you need.

Worked example: 32 of 40 classes with a 75% requirement

You attended 32 of 40 classes held so far. Your college requires 75% attendance.

  1. Current attendance = (32 ÷ 40) × 100 = 80%
  2. 80% is above the 75% requirement
  3. Classes you can skip = floor(32 ÷ 0.75 − 40) = floor(42.667 − 40) = 2
  4. Check: 32 / (40 + 2) = 76.19% ≥ 75%; 32 / (40 + 3) = 74.42% < 75%

80% attendance — you can skip up to 2 future classes and still meet 75%.

How to interpret the result

If you need X% and have Y sessions left, the calculator shows how many you can still miss.

Key definitions

Classes conducted
The number of class sessions that have already been held.
Classes attended
The number of those sessions where you were present.
Required attendance
The minimum attendance percentage your institution or instructor requires to remain eligible.
Classes you can skip
Maximum future absences you can take while still meeting the required percentage, assuming no other absences.

Common use cases

  • Checking whether you still meet a 75% college attendance rule
  • Planning how many lectures you can safely miss before exams
  • Estimating how many consecutive classes you must attend to recover
  • Comparing attendance standing mid-semester vs end of term

Tips

  • Update the calculator after each absence so your skip allowance stays accurate.
  • Confirm whether labs, tutorials, or makeup sessions count toward conducted/attended.
  • If your policy rounds attendance differently, treat the result as a planning guide and leave a buffer.

Common mistakes

Counting upcoming classes as already conducted

Fix: Only enter classes that have already been held — future sessions are what the skip/catch-up math projects.

Assuming you can still reach 100% after missing a class

Fix: Any absence makes a perfect 100% record mathematically impossible going forward.

Ignoring that catch-up assumes you attend every future class

Fix: The classes-required figure assumes consecutive attendance with no further absences.

Limitations

  • Institutional excused-absence rules may override raw percentages.
  • Does not replace official registrar records.
